Patent Granted xA transplastomic plant is a genetically modified plant in which the new genes have not been inserted in the nuclear DNA but in the DNA of the chloroplasts. The major advantage of this technology is that in many plant species plastid DNA is not transmitted through pollen, which prevents gene flow from the genetically modified plant to other plants.
