Patent Granted Vancomycin INN /væŋkɵˈmaɪsɨn/ is an antibiotic used to treat a number of bacterial infections. It is a member of the glycopeptide antibiotic class and is effective mostly against Gram-positive bacteria. Vancomycin was first isolated in 1953 at Eli Lilly & Co. from a soil sample collected by a missionary in the interior jungles of Borneo.
