Can anyone share whether there is a lot of activity (IP commercialization) in the energy sector - specifically oil&gas, and in what approximate volumes and values? (Enquiry from company in Greentech sector)

For a very narrow search (TITLE-ABST(((oil! or gas!) W/2 drill!)) and DATE(>=2013-09-23)) on the database TotalPatent from LexisNexis only within the most important authorities (offices) I received more than 1000 hits. There is a LOT activity of patenting in this field. Here is the TO5 6 countries:
