Based on your experience, where is the most promising venue to make a pitch for inventions in the materials sciences? Do we contact directly related companies, or patent brokers/marketplace, or network with patent attorneys representing clients interested in IP commercialization.

Inventions as in new metamaterials or aparatus as the first may interest distributors and second existing manufacturers to complement productlines. Pitching as a pure company requires a potential blockbuster like early years of nanotubes before get serious attention from people who are looking for high payoff for high risk ventures.
Hi Jennifer
A lot depends on your own set of skills and contacts, what stage your technology is at (proof of concept v prototype v test market sales etc), and whether you want a licence or an outright sale of the technology. Contacting companies directly is great if you can get to the right people, which is a large part of the battle. Understanding and being able to articulate how your technology fits within their business strategy is very important. Going to an industry trade fair is a very good starting place in most cases, even if you are not exhibiting, you can gather a lot of intelligence from the other exhibitors. Good luck!
