Hi,
I'd like to know if there are any specific requirements regarding patentability of SaaS/PaaS/IaaS technologies.
We are a high-potential startup-stage company operating out of Boston, MA. We specialize in cloud-service tech. I have heard that while VCs pay a lot of attention to solid IP protection, this seems to be somewhat more difficult in the IT field than in other areas of technology.
Thank you for your input

In most cases when dealing with SaaS/PaaS/IaaS technologies, you have to consider the possibility of the USPTO characterizing your invention as an unpatentable "abstract idea." In this regard, this technology has some patent writing challenges when compared to the electrical systems that house these services. Briefly, the patent claims on these services need to offer a "patent-eligible application" of the general ideas SaaS/PaaS/IaaS technologies. Without an invention disclosure, it's hard to tell what your situation is. Perhaps we can discuss this in more detail offline.
