Is it necessary for a startup to take care of all legal steps like incorporation, registering a trademark and such before actually launching? Is it really worth it or even necessary?

Speaking on the trademark side - absolutely not. It is a great idea, but not necessary. In fact, in the US, you should NOT file an application before you have formed your business particularly when you are dealing with an intent-to-use application. Many startups will search and establish the mark to be used and file upon incorporation.
