Hello, this might be a very broad question, but I'd like to know what the necessary legal steps are to launch or startup based in Berlin. We have a finished first product with good traction and some larger customers who have expressed interest in long-term collaboration. We are a team of four, there are no employees (some work has been done by contractors online). Our customer base would be mostly in the EU and North America. Legally speaking, what should we do so we can launch and get funding?

Hi and good morning,
generally spoken the steps are
- choosing the legal form; ask a lawyer and a tax counsellor for this
- Founding the company depending of the chosen legal form
- protect your IP-rights
Of course the second step can be much work. Beside the necessary steps there are several useful steps, e.g. creating a budget plan.

Step 1 you need to register or incorporate your startup in either pvt ltd, LLP, also see if German govt is promoting any benefit to startup company like tax wavier for initial few years.
Step 2 if so than obtain a certificate that define your company as startup.
Step 3 Protect your intellectual property -it can be done via Trademark, copyright and patent. It will depend on the your product.
step 4 apply for accelerator programme or join incubation centre for networking and increasing your chances for funding.
Step 5 Consult a Tax lawyer who can help you understand your liability
step 6 write us with specific details we will guide you as much as we can.
Thank you
