Margit Olle, born on May 27, 1971, is an Estonian agricultural scientist specializing in vegetable cultivation. She earned her Doctor Scientiarum degree from the Agricultural University of Norway in 1999 and has since contributed extensively to research in open-field and protected vegetable production. Olle has held senior research roles at the Estonian Crop Research Institute and currently leads NPO Veggies Cultivation, promoting innovative agrotechnology. Fluent in Estonian, English, Norwegian, and some Russian, she’s published numerous peer-reviewed articles and spoken at international conferences. Her work emphasizes sustainable farming practices and the use of effective microorganisms to enhance crop growth and quality.

職歴

From 1999 to 2002, she worked at the Estonian University of Life Sciences. During the years 2000–2001, she worked as a senior researcher on a post-doctoral project revealing two major discoveries about calcium deficiency in leafy vegetable crops.

From 2003 to 2008, she worked as an administrative worker at other institutions.

From 2008 to 2020, she worked as a senior researcher at the Centre of Estonian Rural Research and Knowledge revealing 3 more discoveries in vegetable production.

Since 2021, she works at the NPO Veggies Cultivation.

学歴・資格

She finished Tartu Tamme Gymnasium with a silver medal. She studied for her B.Sc. at the Estonian University of Life Sciences and finished in 1993 Cum Laude, passing all exams excellently. Half of M. Sc. studies (one study year, 1993-1994) she took at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. In 1995, she defended her M.Sc. at the Estonian University of Life Sciences. She took her doctoral studies in 1995–1999 in Norway at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and defended her Doctor Scientiarum degree on May 27, 1999.

THE GLOBAL VEGETABLE CALCIUM DEFICIENCY PROBLEM
Many vegetables develop unique deficiency symptoms; for example, black heart in celery, tipburn in lettuce, tipburn in chervil, tipburn of Chinese cabbage and blossom end rot in tomato.
Harvests with these deficiencies cannot be sold, causing farmers globally to lose Billions of Euros on an annual basis.

SOLUTION
We have developed an Innovative Knowledge Model for greenhouse farmers, which create the optimal conditions specifically for lettuce, cabbage and tomato’s which improve the Ca uptake so that instead of only 80%, close to 100% of the harvest can be sold. Our Innovative Knowledge Model is also applicable to other vegetables not mentioned above with or without similar deficiencies. This model makes plants stronger and storability better.
