Meet patent attorney Jeff Schell. After successful exits from TranS1 and Rocky Mountain Patent, he founded Schell IP, which advises startups and innovators across the country.<br><br>
Jeff also assists companies in their R&D processes as they refine their ideas. He honed his R&D skills, using tools related to lean design and process-based innovation, while helping to expand a well-known Michigan-based consulting business into Shanghai, China.<br><br>
His substantial international experience also includes several months in Costa Rica studying Human Rights in the Americas in conjunction with the Interamerican Court of Human Rights, in addition to study of European Union Law at University College Dublin, Ireland. While in college, Jeff lived in Croatia and Kosovo, where he studied the disintegration of Yugoslavia, and became exposed to the operations of the UN Peacekeeping missions in Bosnia and Kosovo.<br><br>
Jeff's diverse experience includes a stint on the staff of the Chicago 2016 Olympic & Paralympic Bid committee. In that role, he worked closely with a number of professional athletes, Olympians and Paralympians, and upper level members of Chicago government, including Mayor Richard M. Daley. Jeff also interned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. with a ranking member of the Ways and Means Committee.<br><br>
Jeff attended Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering, graduating with degrees in Industrial Engineering & Management Sciences and Economics in 2004. He subsequently earned his Juris Doctor and a Masters in International Studies. In 2010, Jeff also earned a Masters in Medical Informatics Degree from Northwestern. Jeff separately studied economics at Harvard University, and in 2007, was a delegate at the Harvard China-India Development & Relations Symposium.<br><br>
On the side, Jeff coaches football at Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver.
