Syphilis vaccine

Efforts to develop a safe and effective syphilis vaccine have been hindered by uncertainty about the relative importance of humoral and cellular mechanisms to protective immunity,[citation needed] and because T. pallidum outer membrane proteins have not been unambiguously identified.
