How do we determine our Risks?

Question

VCs seem to ask frequently about the risks faced by a potential target company's business model. We are a software development startup with a wide range of possible industrial applications of our product. How do we determine our risks in terms of regulatory issues, product liability, IP? Are those things even relevant to us?

Speaking to the issue of IP, I would surmise that you would want to discuss what your products/applications are, what your anticipate commercialization will look like, and what you obviously want to protect in the nature of patents and trademarks. A common rule to follow is 80/20 - put 80% of your resources into your 20% most important products or applications.
