Fair Use and news feeds

Question

What is the current wisdom on compiling news feeds on a third party website so far as copyright is concerned? If the source is clearly cited, is this safe as 'fair use'? I have checked online but opinions seem to differ. Thanks.

Because there is no firm legal bright line ... the general rule of thumb is that shallow linking or link-shorteners are usually acceptable but deep linking which bypasses registration or the advertising blur is probably not. There's been a lot of heat about google using headlines/titles of news search. The best is to look at the content policy of the actual web-site and stipulated search options.
