What is the procedure for our first financing round?

Question

We are a pre-seed startup planning a first financing round. I would like to ask how exactly the procedure works once we have an Angel/VC who would be interested in investing. Someone told me that there is the signing of a term sheet and then due diligence into our startup? This must seem a simple question but I would like to know what that actually entails. How should we prepare for this procedure beforehand? And how does it work when there are several investors in one funding round?

Thank you for your advice!
