Making sure we won't infringe

Question

We are a CA startup with a solid base of customers for our SAAS service. We want to create an online advertising service that helps match our users with marketing leads within our framework. It seems like much of the technology related to online marketing is covered with patents by Google, Facebook, etc. How can we make sure we won't infringe their patents, preferably BEFORE we invest lots of time and money in development?

You need to have a professional freedom-to-operate or infringement study done whereby whoever does the search for you will uncover patents within the realm of your operation/technology wherein those patents may therefore potentially pose infringement problems for you.
