Question
Hi there~
We are a team of IT and Marketing professionals who have been developing a business plan and first product prototypes. We are planning to launch a startup based on our efforts and would like to know what the best way to do so is in Singapore. For example, what kind of company do we have to set up? Should we base our business in Singapore in the first place?
Our current team is working remotely, with team members in Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. Our business will be in the area of forensic data analysis.
Thank you in advance.
John

I'm a New Zealand IP broker temporarily based out of Singapore. The govt is making a lot of efforts to attract regional startups and change the local culture to be more risk adventurous. If you have 30% singaporean shareholding/investors, then some of the incentives are the most attractive I've seen around the world. You can have a virtual company (I've met several with dev teams in Taiwan + Shanghai) but it just needs to be incorporated (about a day's work). One major feature the SG govt is touting is its IP jurisdiction (rule of law, arbitration process, strong stance akin to US). The alternative jurisdictions are China or Australia/NZ (small scale offerings board v crowd-investing).
