Patent Granted PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new material for an alkaline storage battery which has large hydrogen occlusion capacity and is lightweight. ; SOLUTION: The material for an alkaline storage battery includes at least one kind of lithium compound selected from a group consisting of a lithium amide compound and a lithium imido compound wherein the lithium compound includes at least one kind selected from a group made of lithium amide and lithium imido, and includes a reaction product between alkaline and a lithium compound.
