Electrochemical cell

Patent Granted An electrochemical cell is a device capable of either generating electrical energy from chemical reactions or facilitating chemical reactions through the introduction of electrical energy. An electrochemical cell consists of two electrodes in contact with an electrolyte. This electrolyte is an ionic conductor which may be a liquid or solid solution. Electrochemical cells either create chemical changes by the action of an electric current such as in an electrolytic cell, or create electric currents by the action of chemical changes. A common example of an electrochemical cell is a battery.
