We are developing an online platform and marketplace for cloud-rendered CAD files (and other graphical content), with extensive social media features. It seems like there are many software-related patents out there for online exchange and sales of files, for social media implementations, etc. How can I figure it if we are infringing one of those patents? How widely do I have to interpret the explanations each patent gives about its invention?

I agree. Speak with a patent practitioner. There are search services that do "freedom-to-operate" checks, but they need to be interpreted by someone who understands patent law and the tech landscape (along with having the confidentiality of an attorney). Remember, if the patent owner can prove you were aware of her patent and infringed that patent still, you may be liable for treble damages.
