Are there intellectual property law firms or patent attorneys that regularly offer deferred payment for startups?

It is rare. I have seen payment in the form of equity. Another possibility is the deferred payment is in the form of convertible note which is treated as debt and thus has higher priority than common stock (or all stock for that matter) if a liquidation event should happen.
