My company's name is registered as a Trademark in the US and I would like to register it in Europe as well. After some searching it turns out that there is a company in the Netherlands with a similar name and it seems to be roughly in the same business (professional IT services & solutions). Does this mean we cannot register our name in Europe? Or can we maybe do something because of our US registration?

Hi, it is not clearly determined that you would like to register in which european country. Community trademark is not the only way of registration. you can file your trademark in other countries as directly national filing or via Madrid System. If your market is in Netherlands it is difficult for you then. Also, you have to check the situation of the Netherlands' trademark either it is a well-known trademark in one of EU countries. It seems like you need help from a European trademark attorney.
