Question
Is it a good idea to get a patent for an educational game that we believe is novel. Is it even possible to get a patent for an educational gaming app? are there examples of this that you can point me to?

In general, toys and games are patentable subject matter. As for an education gaming app, this may be somewhat more difficult but I believe doable - you may have to claim the various components as "means for....." in order to satisfy 35 USC 101 where examiners routinely reject patent applications for apps on the basis of non-statutory subject matter, however, claiming component parts as "means for.." usually overcomes such rejections. Consult a patent professional who has expertise in this particular field.
