I was invited to speak before the New York City chapter of the International Intellectual Property Society (IIPS).
Below is a video recording of my talk.
Please note:
– there is slight glitch in the little talking head video from minute 18:00 – 23:00, but the audio and the screencast are ok
– my three predictions for the very near future from minute 49:30 – 59:00 are speculative in nature and meant to serve as a basis for discussion
– I promised to post a link to my hands-on Unitary Patent strategy, here it is https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/unitarian-patent-upc-update-what-you-need-know-april-2018-schweiger/
– you can still today obtain 2.0 CLE hours for New York or New Jersey, by watching the video and paying a fee of $30 (for non-members) or by becoming a member and enjoying the benefits of membership for one year by completing the membership form and submitting the annual fee of $100 ($25 for law students). Fees may be paid by cash, check or credit card at the next IIPS meeting in NYC. Please contact IIPS at iipsny@yahoo.com for more information.

Algorithm Lawyers: How and How Soon? The Decline of the Legal Profession as we Know it.
The IIPS is pleased to announce that our May 17th meeting will feature a presentation on
Algorithm Lawyers: How and How Soon? The Decline of the Legal Profession as we Know it.
Summary: If you are a lawyer then you know that there are a lot of areas of law that consist largely of drafting legal documents that often need only minimal or even no real personalized attention by a lawyer at all. The following will happen: Template filler lawyers will face increasing competition by Artificial Intelligence. Young lawyers will replace paralegals, for the same salary. Jobs for specialized lawyers will remain. Some of them will earn much more than today.
