Patent Pending Left atrial appendage occlusion is a treatment strategy to prevent blood clot formation in patients suffering from atrial fibrillation (AF). In this heart rhythm disorder, blood clots form in the left atrial appendage (LAA) in 10-20 % of cases.[1] During cardiac catheterization, an expandable nitinol frame can be introduced into the appendage.
