Question
Hello! How much does it generally cost to register your TM in Europe? Can the prosecution be handled from the US or is it necessary to get an IP professional abroad to take care of it?
Answers: 2 public & 3 private
Another option that does not require a European attorney is to file using the procedures of an international treaty called the Madrid Protocol. Under this procedure you can file in many countries around the world at the same time from the U.S., and you never need to involve foreign attorneys unless the application encounters a problem somewhere. In my practice it is not unusual to file in 40 countries at once under the Madrid process.
If you want to register your TM for the entire European Union, you can file directly yourself using the EU TM Office (OHIM) online facility. The cost is €900 ($1,150) for up to three classes of goods and services. You will however need to appoint an EU TM attorney if the application encounters an objection or challenges from third parties.
