Question
We would like to protect our company & product name (identical). Some investors whom we approached early on mentioned that good TM protection could be an asset for our first financing round. We are currently aiming to bring our product to the market within a couple of months -- is it possible to get comprehensive protection in that time? Or are we protected from the moment we apply for a trademark anyway? The company is based in London for the moment.

Hi, You can use a foreign application and priority claim when filing in GB. Lebanon and Benelux are very appropriate to have a registration but at first, you must check the registrability of your trademark in GB. If your trademark is belong to another enterprise it is useless to work on it. This order may be usefull: 1- check your trademmark's registrability in GB, 2- If yes file an application in Benelux or Lebanon, 3- Do your interviews with the investors immediately before the end of sixth month from the trademark filing date. 4- if everything goes well then file your application in GB before the end of priority duration(means within six months from the first filing date in Benelux or Lebanon). Or simply check the mark and file the application in GB :)
